The single “Competition” to the Dodo’s upcoming album Invivid was just released via Polyvinyl Records’ soundcloud. If you’re at all familiar with the Dodo’s old stuff – this track is bound to surprise you. The band seems to have taken on a much more upbeat indie rock sound, without some of the acoustic sounds characteristic of their old stuff. Furthermore, Meric Long appears to have taken a new approach to his vocals. They’re no longer as straight up and aggressive as they were on the 2008 album Visiter, but instead they’re more emotional and tailored. The exception to this new sound would be the strong driving drumming featured on “Competition” very typical of the band. Whether or not you’re familiar with the Dodos, give the song a listen, and get energized by that driving beat.

The album Inivivid is set for release on January 27, 2015 and will be featuring singer Brigid Dawson of Thee Oh Sees.
