Dreamy Summer

In a time where many artists are moving towards big sounds with electric instruments, sound synthesizers and computers it is refreshing to remind ourselves how powerful a single instrument can sound.  Julia With Blue Jeans On is an entire album comprised of one man’s voice and a piano. That’s it. Nothing more.  Except that it is so much more.  It’s an emotionally packed album, and the isolation of the piano elegantly mirrors loneliness, with each key cutting deeper than the last. “Dreamy Summer” made me fall in love with the instrument all over again.  The slightly sporadic arrangement of notes beginning around the 4:30 mark has accurately reproduced the sound and essence of rainfall, it’s mesmerizing.  With this album Spencer Krug has breathed new truth into the old cliché: “less is more.”
