Elephant

So it seems that psychedelia is making a comeback in today’s music. Tame Impala is leading the charge and have a fan-base that is growing at a very rapid pace. Unlike a lot of music today, Tame Impala is not concerned about having a catchy hook that needs to be repeated several times over. This group is more concerned about the experience of the song and being able to blow you away with an explosion of sound while being able to hypnotize you with the music at the same time.

“Elephant” is very different from the band’s other songs. While the same philosophy of a musical experience is applied here, this song is much darker and heavier than anything else they have ever released. It keeps a simple, heavy, driving feel until about a third of the way through. That’s when the song decides to punch you in the face with a fantastic synth section, and I am not exaggerating when I say this. If you don’t get goosebumps when you’re this deep into the song, you may want to go see a doctor.

And while I have your attention, I have to advise to you; if you listen to ANY track from this band you MUST listen to it with headphones or with a very good stereo system. The way these songs are mixed and presented is just incredible and is integral to the songs themselves.

Tame Impala released their album Lonerism just earlier this month, and it is a great one. The whole album maintains a psychedelic feel, but at the same time many of the songs give off a very different vibe, diversifying your whole experience. With that in mind, grab this album, start it from track one, kick back, and prepare to be blown away.
