I Don’t Want
In The Basement at the Party
I had the great privilege to work with Toronto based musician Patrick Grant last summer and in doing so, was exposed to this album which he recorded back in 2012. After giving me a copy at work one day, I remember walking to work the next day listening to it and instantly being hooked. Packed with intelligent, raw and honest lyricism as well a diversity of sounds and instruments, Gather All Around You is a five track album with a lot crammed into it. The opening track, “I Don’t Want” is a mixture of almost spoken word poetry and an upbeat sing-along, while “In the Basement at the Party” is a seven minute epic of droning guitar solos along-side a dissonant clarinet that aches through the story of an empty hook up experience. This LP features many talented local musicians who expand the songs on Gather All Around You into that rich and full-band experience. Pat was generous enough to make the album free to download from group’s bandcamp page, so grab a copy from the link below!
