This is my second post on Japan Soul; they had me at ‘wandering vacuum of ideas.’ I am always excited to get my ears on new stuff from this New York based band, and am biding my time until their LP Plastic Utopia is released. The conceptual setting of this forthcoming LP is crafted to bear unnerving similarities to the world we drudge through each day, collectively becoming a piece of protest against the times. ‘Hey Yah Hey’ deals with public surveillance, thwarted by the persistence of self-identity and creativity. Check out their Bandcamp Page and drift through tunes of similar proclamations against conditions of the world. If this dystopian alternate reality is our home, then Plastic Utopia bears prophecy of a modern plague. It appears we are fucked anyways, but at least we’ve got a killer soundtrack.
