Throw your mosh hands up the air for Hamilton, Ontario’s own Prophets. Founded in 2009, this five piece progressive hardcore band have demonstrated their cred through sharing the stage with the likes of Stray From the Path, Counterparts, and Dead and Devine. These guys must be held together by super glue, they’re so fxcking tight. While not having been picked up by any label yet, it’s only a matter of time for these dedicated twenty-somethings.
Off of 2012’s The Youth, “Misled” demonstrates what these guys are all about. The song is an exploration of where progressive hardcore music stands today, a balance somewhere between sludgey drones, double-time, and breakdown assaults. They create something very cohesive through the progressive elements of their sound, avoiding the often uninspired and repetitive growl that characterizes hardcore music, yet these hardcore roots are preserved to a degree that will keep those audiences entertained.
Prophets are playing at Time to Laugh tomorrow night, Sunday March 23, here in Kingston with Liferuiner. If you’re into heavier music, it’s a show you don’t want to miss. These guys BRING IT live. See you there, stage dives and high fives all night.
