I don’t know if any of you are as into Mac DeMarco as I am, but ever since he released his album 2 in 2012, I’ve been hooked. Mac just released his newest album, Salad Days, and upon hearing the first single, “Passing Out the Pieces”, I must admit I was a little disappointed and not as excited for his new album as I hoped I’d be. But, alas, I’ve been proven wrong. It turns out the album is fantastic. Although “Passing Out the Pieces” isn’t, in my opinion, the biggest hit off of the album, it fits. The album has got the perfect mix of chilled out vibes and energetic dance tunes that each feature Mac’s classic twangy guitar riffs. Of all the songs on the album, “Salad Days” is by far my favourite. The song features the simplest, sexiest, and most laid-back guitar riff, along with again the simplest, but catchiest chorus you could ever imagine. The chorus contains no lyrics and instead a series of la la las – perfect for those with little musical talent that still want to sing along. It’s this simplicity, along with Mac’s signature sound that makes the song “Salad Days” so great.
