I have two extremely different artists for you guys today, each amazing individually, and together they’re golden.
The first is a Toronto native and Queen’s student who’s gained increasing popularity over this past year. Dabin is a dubstep/drum and bass/electro house DJ signed to Kannibalen Records whose releases have topped multiple charts this year including Beatport’s Top 50 Dubstep Singles. There’s nothing I Iike more than seeing people who deserve it succeed. It’s just a beautiful thing to see someone working hard at what they love and getting recognition for it.
However, if EDM isn’t really your thing, skip the first song and give Daniela Andrade’s cover of Daughter’s “Youth” a listen. A YouTube sensation from Edmonton, Daniela’s unique voice and simplistic tracks will have you abusing the replay button. Or even better, do your part in supporting Canadian artists and purchase her EP Things We’ve Said.
Finally, in the spirit of Halloween, I present Kannibalen Records. A record company based out of Montreal, Kannibalen was born from (and is responsible for) throwing a show where “every month, Montreal’s Belmont nightclub transforms into a flesh-eating tribal party as masses of hungry cannibals line up to devour earth-shaking beats.” Definitely not your average concert, but you want to have some cool stories to tell your kids, don’t you?
Happy Halloweekend, folks! Life’s been stressful lately; take a break, have fun, and be a ghoul this weekend – you deserve it.
