The Blacker The Berry
The King is Back. Not even 24 hours after winning a grammy for his performance in i, Kendrick decides to drop one of his hardest hitting tracks yet. The Blacker the Berry, produced by Boi-1da (shouts to the Toronto talent) and Terrace Martin, resonates with some of Kendrick’s hits from Good Kid M.A.A.D City, surely receiving praise from some of his earlier fans. Following inspiration from Wallace Thurman’s 1929 novel The Blacker the Berry: A Novel of Negro Life, Kendrick’s newest song tackles a similar exploration of racial and social justice. Through topics such as the recent tragedy of Trayvon Martin, The Blacker the Berry has some of the most powerful lyrics of the year thus far. To everyone who dished out criticism for Kendrick’s radio-tuned delivery of i, you can’t help but admit that this song could not be more opposite. This shit is fire.
