Coeur de pirate

You Know I’m No Good

Coeur de Pirate is one of those names that probably rings a bell because you pass her Wicked Game cover on your iPod every once and a while. If that’s the extent to which you know Béatrice Martin’s work, I encourage you to listen a little deeper. Being a francophone from Montréal, most of Martin’s music is french, but even if you don’t understand the lyrics, her heartbreaking passion spills through the language barrier and is enough to pull at anyone’s heartstrings.

Coeur de Pirate’s fourth LP, Trauma, is set to be released January 14, but the album is already up to stream on CBC Music. The album is a collection of covers ranging from Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” to Bon Iver’s “Flume” to Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, all rewritten and performed by Martin for the fifth season of Radio-Canada’s t.v. show, Trauma. Take a listen and enjoy this Canadian beauty.
